MAVIS CORPORATE TIMELINE

A 100 Year Road Trip

2026

Mavis asked me to turn a century of company history into a permanent headquarters installation. I brought together archival research, restored imagery, recreated historic brand assets, and environmental design to create A 100 Year Road Trip—a visual story of the people, milestones, acquisitions, and brands that shaped the company.

Challenge

Mavis’ history was spread across photographs, newspaper archives, company records, and the stories of its founders, leaders, and acquired brands. The challenge was to turn that material into a clear, compelling experience for the headquarters lobby.

The installation needed to celebrate a century of growth while balancing historical detail, visual hierarchy, readability, and the practical demands of fabrication at architectural scale.

Role

I led the project from research and storytelling through design, artwork preparation, production direction, and installation coordination.

My work included researching company and acquired-brand histories, organizing the narrative, restoring 74 historical images, recreating legacy logos, developing the complete wall layout, and coordinating fabrication with South Shore Signs.

I worked with executive leadership throughout the process to refine the story and bring the installation through final approval.

Building The Story

The first step was understanding what belonged in the story—and how the pieces connected.

I researched company milestones, traced the histories of acquired brands, and gathered photographs, advertisements, records, and supporting artifacts. That material became a visual narrative linking Mavis’ origins, expansion, and growing family of brands.

The goal was to give visitors a clear path through the history while leaving room to explore individual moments up close.

Restoring The Archive

Much of the original material needed careful reconstruction before it could become part of a permanent display.

I restored 74 historical images, addressing damage, tonal inconsistency, and reproduction quality. I also recreated historic brand assets, including Vic the Tire King and the original Mavis Tire Supply logo.

The goal was not to over-modernize the past, but to preserve the character of the original material while preparing it for a consistent presentation at full environmental scale.

Archival material, restored imagery, and historical research informed every milestone.

Designing The Experience

The visual system needed to work at two scales: as one continuous wall from across the lobby, and as a collection of individual stories viewed up close.

I developed a structure of bold dates, concise captions, archival photography, acquired-brand moments, and a continuous tire-track timeline. Dimensional black and teal acrylic lettering, along with reverse-printed clear acrylic photo plaques, gave the archive a physical presence within the headquarters environment.

The result was designed to feel less like a corporate chronology and more like a living record of the company.

A continuous visual system connected decades of history across the lobby wall.

Dimensional date markers and acrylic photo plaques created depth and hierarchy.

Executive Review at Full Scale

Before final fabrication, I installed a full-size paper mockup in the headquarters lobby for executive review. Seeing the timeline at actual scale made it possible to evaluate the story, hierarchy, imagery, typography, and overall impact in the environment where it would ultimately live.

Reviewing the timeline at architectural scale helped refine the narrative, spacing, and visual hierarchy before final production.

From Design To Installation

I translated the approved concept into production-ready artwork and coordinated with South Shore Signs on materials, sizing, fabrication, and installation.

The finished system combined large-format wall graphics, dimensional acrylic lettering, and 74 reverse-printed clear acrylic plaques. Bringing those elements together required close attention to image quality, alignment, color, production tolerances, and the relationship between the artwork and the physical lobby.
